People are healed. Creation restored. The world turned upside down.

God-with-us calls us to see and to act.

We’re here to listen, to be transformed, to live into God’s

                        Beloved Community.

Let us join together in the presence of the One who makes this all so. Let us

- Night Club Christmas Tree The Night Club Ladies have once again decorated a Christmas Tree at the mall.  This is a contest to see who receives the most votes by grocery donations to the Contact Center. Please take some time to stop out at the mall and see the tree and drop off a few items.  Last year we won the contest and received a $100 and passed it on to the family that choose our tree.  We hope to bring in some good votes this year as well.  You may also bring grocery items and place them in the box located in Wesley Hall and we will take them to the mall for you.  Thanks in advance for all your support.

- Annual Angel Tree Angel gifts need to be at the church by today, Dec. 15th so they can be delivered in time for Christmas. Thank you for helping!

- Christmas Eve Worship We will have two worship services on Christmas Eve, 4:30 and 7:00pm.  The theme of this year’s services is “The Gifts of Christmas” these services will include special music. If you are interested in being a reader for one of the services, place your name on the sign-up sheet located on the table in the lounge.  A special offering will be received for Yankton Contact Center. Plan now to attend one of these worship services.

- Walk and Talk Bible Study with devotional is specifically designed to be used while you walk with a friend, a member of your congregation, or by yourself.  The primary objective of the Walk and Talk Bible Study is to help communities incorporate healthy habits into their lives of faith through physical movement and spiritual enrichment.  Each month there is a different theme which provides 4 devotionals on that theme for a total of 48 devotionals.  There is a scripture passage, a short reflections and a series of questions and a closing prayer.  If you are interested in purchasing a book for $6.00 please contact Susan Thorson, Parish Nurse at the church office 665-2991.  Talk to your friends and think about doing this Bible Study to replenish your bodies with good exercise and spiritual enrichment.

- Tree of Life Ministry The Rosebud Reservation is the second poorest county in the entire USA.  Over 1,000 people depend on “Tree of Life” for free hot meals each week.  With cutbacks in food stamps, the ministry is more needed than ever.  Without an increase in financial support the ministry may have to curtail their food pantry and hot meal program during the winter months.  With that being said, the Missions Committee has committed to continue the Miles of Pennies into the New Year.

- Thank You We offer a sincere thank you to our church family for helping to support this worthwhile ministry.  First Church was able to give a gift of $1,850!!  The Mission’s Committee supported the first mile of pennies, totaling $844, First United Methodist Women gifted $500 and the congregation raised $505 through the collection of loose change!   The need is great for our brothers and sisters on the Rosebud Reservation and our work is not done.  Please continue to save your loose change to place in the “Miles of Pennies” jug which will return in January.

She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy." Proverbs 31:20

- Church Directory there are a few 2014 Church Directories available on the Welcome Table. If you have a new phone number, address or email please let Lisa in the office know.

- The Salvation Army in Yankton is now ringing bells at local businesses in Yankton.  90% of funds raised locally are used to provide temporary, emergency assistance to residents and transients in Yankton. You can make a difference in the lives of those in need either by donating when you see a Red Kettle or by volunteering 2 hours (or more) to staff a Red Kettle at a local business through Dec. 21st. If you are interested in bell-ringing or have questions about The Salvation Army in Yankton, please call Carol Pooler at 661-5153.

- 2014 Calendars, compliments of Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home, are now available. You can pick them up from the table in the Church Lounge or outside the Church Office.

- January 2014 Health Message January 2014 is National Birth Defects Prevention Month. The primary objective of this month is to increase awareness of birth defects, the leading cause of infant mortality in the U.S.  More than 120,000 babies born in the U.S. are born with birth defects or 1 in every 33 live births.  See Susan Thorson, Parish Nurse for more information for who are planning to become pregnant or who may be pregnant to take important steps to help prevent birth defects.

- Faith and Home First United Methodist Church will be providing a study group for parents once a month.  We will plan to meet for 45 minutes the first Sunday of the month in the east end of Wesley Hall during the Sunday School hour at 9:45am. Each session will have a gathering time, a prayer, scripture, a scenario with a discussion and a closing on a variety of topics related to parenting. Different members of our church will be speaking on each of the selected topics listed below.  This will be a very informal time. When we learn in a group, we share and support one another.  We learn new ideas and learn from parents with older children.  We receive reassurance hearing from other families that have concerns like we do.  Stories and concerns shared will be confidential.  It will be a time of learning, sharing our faith and enjoying one another.  Free coffee and healthy snacks are an option to those attending the sessions.  Contact Susan Thorson, Parish Nurse by leaving a message at 665-2991 if you are interested in attending.

- Meals for families and friends of 1st United Methodist Church Another Mission of the church is providing a meal or meals for persons or families that have recently come home from the hospital, have illness, tragedy or other misfortune in their lives. Jane Gilmore and Carol Becker are the resource persons to arrange for meals after they have been contacted by the Pastors, Parish Nurse or family member. We then contact the family and find out their needs and food preferences. Sometimes it is only 1 meal, sometimes meals for a longer period of time. However we do not overload the person with too much food, so usually a meal every other day is enough. When you sign up please let it be known if you will do the whole meal or you wish to partner with someone for the meal. We have had a list of interested individuals, but it needs updating with name, current phone number, and best time we can contact you. There will be a sign up sheet on the table in Wesley Hall. Thank you for being generous with your time and talent and helping our neighbors and friends. Jane & Carol.
