PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

GREAT THANKSGIVING FOR WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

         The Lord be with you.

            And also with you.

            Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

And so, with your people on earth, and all the company of saints in heaven, we praise

your name and join their unending hymn, saying.

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your

glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the

            Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts of love and grace, we offer ourselves

in praise and thanksgiving, as saints and sinners in love with you, praying for union with

Christ, even as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

GIVING OF BREAD AND CUP

- November Health Message Today, more than 25 million Americans are living with diabetes and 79 million are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  Lower your chances of developing type 2 diabetes by watching your weight, being active, eating healthy, and controlling your blood pressure and cholesterol.  Diabetes information is available in Wesley Hall.

- It’s Coming!  Consecration Sunday, November 10, 2013 Why Give? The Bible tells us we give time, talents, and treasures because of our relationship with Jesus Christ. We give to further our church’s mission and ministry in response to the spiritual work God has done in our lives. How has our Church’s ministry influenced you? The theme is: Reaching In…to your hearts, treasures, and talents. Reaching Up…to God to present your gifts willingly, and Reaching Out…to those in need. By Nov. 10th, Consecration Sunday. God is asking you to Reach A Conclusion by asking: How will I Share my treasures, time, and talents.

- Flocks of Chicks change Lives $20 will purchase a flock of chicks through Heifer International. Your gift helps provide a family in need with a starter flock of 10 to 50 chicks, along with the training to empower them. Chickens require little space and can thrive on scraps. This allows families to make money from the birds without spending much.  And since a good hen can lay up to 200 eggs per year, your gift provides a steady source of nutrition and income. You may also wish to give this as an alternative gift to family and friends. What an incredible way to focus on the real meaning of Christmas and shine the light of Jesus! Our goal is to sell 50 flocks. We will be selling them on 11/10 & 11/17 in the church lobby or you can contact the church office.  Pass on the gift! The Missions Committee

- United Methodist Women All ladies are invited and encouraged to join a very supportive fellowship and be part of this mission oriented group. The November meeting of United Methodist Women will be Monday, Nov. 4th at 1:30pm in the lounge. Program: World Thanks Offering/Memorial Service. All women of the church are invited and encouraged to attend this fellowship of faith.

- Miles of Pennies Update The Mission’s Committee is committed to donating the first mile of pennies to the Tree of Life Ministry; $850.  To date, the Miles of Pennies has raised about 1/3 of a mile totaling $269!!  Please help us reach the mile mark by making a contribution today!!

- Having a New Baby? “Watching Your Baby Grow” is a great resource for parents who have just had a birth of a new baby or adoption of a child.  This resource helps prepare you as your child grows to provide insight into the spiritual needs of your child.  There are many changes in the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of a child from birth to five.  You can keep track if the development and well baby check ups, as well as your thoughts and feelings toward parenting in the resource. It is often said “it takes a village to raise a child.”  Ask for help when needed.  Arrange for the parish nurse to visit you after the new baby to answer questions and learn about services in the community.  To request a free copy of “Watching Your Baby Grow” contact parish nurse, Susan Thorson, R.N. at the church office at 665-2991.

- S.L.W.S. New Adult Sunday School class starting December 1st at 9am in the Adult Sunday School room. Based on the Upper Room and Our Daily Bread devotions. Contact Bob Thue at 660-6051 or bgthue@hotmail.com.

- Hy-Vee Cards $50 and $100 denominations. Hy-Vee donates 5% of the face value to FUMC.  This mission supports special projects for the church such as pew cushions and pads, refinishing the pews, carpet in the sanctuary and hallways, and remodeling the kitchen. If you have not been a regular purchaser, please consider becoming one. It is a good way of supporting our church.

- Fall Yard/Garden Cleanup The KFC youth will once again clean up leaves, etc for church members needing help getting ready for winter. This is a service project and there will be no charge for the work. We ask only that you supply large, strong garbage bags. (Of course, cookies and lemonade would be appreciated). Please call the church office and you will be notified about a date.

- Habitat for Humanity of Yankton County is seeking applicants for homeownership and for our Brush of Kindness program.  To seek information on homeownership opportunities contact Julie at 260-4224.  In addition, we are seeking applications or referrals for individuals who currently own their home, but it is need of some light exterior repair work.  This program is designed to help individuals who are living on a limited income or who do not have the physical ability to make such repairs themselves.  Contact Julie for more information 260-4224
