- Soup Kitchen and Country Store Very Successful The Annual UMW Soup Kitchen and Country Store on Oct. 16th was a fantastic day for our church. Just saying “thank you” does not adequately express our gratitude.  To everyone who volunteered on countless committees, the tireless workers who came on Monday to set up Wesley Hall, the cooks and bakers who donated soups and pies, as well as items for the Country Store, and all the volunteer workers who supported the event. It would be impossible to name everyone who helped make this a huge success, but we sincerely thank you all. Estimated profits of $5,200 will be used for camping scholarships and local mission projects.       Carole Hurley & Delora Carson, Co-Chair

- Help! Baking Brothers Ministry needs more men to bake and our church family to distribute our baked goods to people beyond our church walls. Take some today, October 20th. Find someone to give it to saying “this is a gift to you from the FUMC Baking Brothers Ministry. It was made with love.”

October 23rd we will be having this month’s get together in Wesley Hall.  Bring a pumpkin for yourself and whatever carving tools you may have or need. - Hy-Vee Cards $50 and $100 denominations. Hy-Vee donates 5% of the face value to FUMC.  This mission supports special projects for the church such as pew cushions and pads, refinishing the pews, carpet in the sanctuary and hallways, and remodeling the kitchen. If you have not been a regular purchaser, please consider becoming one. It is a good way of supporting our church.

- Help Needed Please make US hunger a matter of PRAYER and ACTION. An unplanned but harmful cut in all food stamps (SNAP) will start November 1st. For example, a family of 4 will lose several meals with their $36/month cut. This is not the sequester. It is the expiration of the 2009 stimulus boost, after food price inflation was less than expected. Other cuts from the farm bill or House proposal would be IN ADDITION to this $5 Billion cut. Prayer and expressions of concern may
touch the heart of Congress, which has always protected critical food assistance in the past. Households in Yankton that may be affected by this proposal number at 1,165. The Missions Committee has letters prepared to mail off to our Representatives today. Please stop down in the lobby to sign a letter in support.

- Fall Yard/Garden Cleanup The KFC youth will once again clean up leaves, etc for church members needing help getting ready for winter. This is a service project and there will be no charge for the work. We ask only that you supply large, strong garbage bags. (Of course, cookies and lemonade would be appreciated). Please call the church office and you will be notified about a date.
