When God began to create, God said, “Let there be light.”

And there was light, and it was good.

When Jesus came up from the waters of baptism,

the light and glory of God showed us his was the true light.

Let us worship the One who brings us light in nature and in the Christ.

All glory and praise to you, O God, and to your Christ.

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S SUPPER

REMEMBRANCE OF BAPTISM

In the waters of the great chaos, we find our roots. We remember the ways our God has

delivered us through torment and into the promised land of new life.

         Alleluia, thanks be to God!

When the storm covered the face of the earth, at the voice of God the water were calmed

and the earth came forward. Waters were separated from waters, and God created.

         Alleluia, thanks be to God!

The storm rose again, flooding evil and washing it from the face of the earth. The rains

   came, and God cleansed.

         Alleluia, thanks be to God!

Moses was saved by hiding in the water, and when Israel escaped its dreaded fate as

slaves, Moses stood at the water and God opened the path to escape. The waters

   parted, and God saved.

         Alleluia, thanks be to God!

In the river Jordan, Jesus entered and was baptized by John. In this water, we too are

called children of God. The waters were poured, and God claimed.

         Alleluia, thanks be to God!

May the waters of new life wash over us and remind us each day of your claim on each of

us, and how you use water to create, cleanse, save, and claim each who calls out to you.

         Amen.

PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

GREAT THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to God.

Let us give our thanks to the Holy One.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

And so, with your creatures on earth and all the heavenly chorus, we praise your

Name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

And so, in remembrance of your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
