*CALL TO WORSHIP

Thus says the Lord God: I will set up one shepherd over my people.

Our shepherd will feed us and lead us in God’s ways.

Thus says the Lord God: I will save my flock.

God’s flock shall no longer be ravaged. The shepherd shall judge

between the sheep and the goats.

Thus says the Lord God: I, the Lord, will be their God!

And my servant shall be prince among them. I, the Lord, have spoken.

Come and worship the shepherd who is king.

We come to worship and bow down to the one shepherd.

*LITANY FOR UNITED METHODIST STUDENT DAY

Today, on this United Methodist Student Day, we honor the dreams planted in the hearts of those who feel called to pursue further education and live out their faith by continuing to grow deeper in knowledge that will help them use the gifts God created within them to change the world.

Grant them confidence to pursue these dreams.

Today, we remember those students who are away from home, some for the first time. We lift up those living away from home, from family, and from the community of faith. We pray they find new places to be loved, new places to be nurtured, and new places to challenge them to press further on the path of following Jesus.

Grant them the courage to press on.

Today, we lift up the ministry that happens on college campuses. We pray for these ministries that offer faith at a time in life it can sometimes be set aside, that offer hope in times that can feel very alone and that offer love in moments that home seems far away.

We pray, O God that they may be a beacon of Your love and hope.

Today we consider those who have a dream of furthering their education and not a way. We recognize these closed doors that exist for some of our brothers and sisters. We rejoice that together our gifts can open some of those doors.

We pray, O God that we may be generous in our gifts and prayers.

Today, on this United Methodist Student Day, we offer prayers for our students. We pray for perseverance in their studies, for confidence in their gifts and vocation, and for the experience of joy in learning. Bless their efforts as they unify faith and knowledge to make our world a better one.

We pray, O God for our students.  Amen

·     If you are new to F.U.M.C. and visiting with us today, we would appreciate it if you would take the time to fill out the Visitor Card that is placed in the back of the pew pockets. You may then turn this card into the Welcome Table in the lobby at the base of the staircase and you will receive a Welcome Bag!  Thank you for being with us today!

Today November 26th our congregation will have the opportunity to participate in Giving Tuesday (November 28th) offering all of us a chance to give to those in need. Our donations will go to Tree of Life this year. This is a unique opportunity as we have an anonymous donor that will match what we give up to $2,500. Please prayerfully consider supporting Giving Tuesday by putting your gift in the offering envelope on November 26th. Thank you!

Chancel Choir will now be held on Tuesday evenings at 7pm in December through the Advent season.

Decorating of the Sanctuary for Advent will take place on Tuesday, November 28th at 6:00pm.  You are invited to join the Worship Committee to prepare the sanctuary for the First Sunday of Advent.  We will be putting up the trees, wreaths and banners.  We will also get the bulbs ready to go on the trees for the first Sunday in Advent. Let's decorate our beautiful church together.

A huge thank you to those who have volunteered to help usher for our worship services. We are still in need of assistant ushers for the 8:30 am and the 11:00 am service the 2nd Sunday of each month.  Beginning in November we will need four ushers for the 11:00 service the second Sunday. We would also like to increase our pool of substitutes to help out when needed. Please prayerfully consider helping out with this important ministry of our church.  Please contact Craig Sherman, if you wish to help out with this ministry. Email: cs2254@yahoo.com or 665-7182.

Advent Retreat The stories about Jesus’ mother, Mary, from the Gospel of Luke provide the framework for the Advent retreat “The Joys of Mary,” at the Benedictine Peace Center at Sacred Heart Monastery.  The morning of reflection, presented by S. Mary Jo Polak, OSB, is on Saturday, Dec. 9th 9:30 to Noon, with check-in beginning at 9am.  For more information, go to https://yanktonbenedictines.org/advent-retreat/.  To register call 605-668-6292 or e-mail BenedictinePeaceCtr@mtmc.edu by Dec. 6th.

Website Coordinator needed we are looking for someone to build a new website for the church. If you would like more information please contact Jenae Norton.

Membership Class we will be leading a Membership class on November 28th, from 6:00 - 7:30pm. The class is for those who are transferring their membership from another UMC or from another denomination as well as those who have no membership in any church at the present time.  Persons interested in attending this class should contact Rev. Ron (665-2991 or revron24@gmail.com).

Offering Envelopes If you would like to continue using the offering envelopes for your weekly giving please contact Lisa in the church office. Because so many envelopes go unused we are doing things differently this coming year.

Advent Study For our Advent study this year we will be using Adam Hamilton's book "Faithful, Christmas through the eyes of Joseph" We will be meeting the following Wednesday evenings at 7:15pm in the Church Lounge, Nov. 29th, Dec. 6th, Dec. 13th and Dec. 20th.  Cost of the book is $15. In this study, you will understand how Joseph's place in the nativity story is much like our own. In life, we encounter circumstances that we would have never chosen for ourselves. At times it can be tempting just to walk away. Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don't understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides. Exchange your doubt for courage this Advent and Christmas season.

Christmas Celebration Sunday

Christmas time is a busy season with all of us, we are all going in different directions to spend time with loved ones and families. But many times we miss the chance to celebrate the joy of Christmas with our Church Family, so this year we are having a Church Christmas Celebration Sunday on Sunday, December 10th.   It will be a day of worship, fellowship, fun, and celebration.

We will start our celebration with the band “One Way Up” joining us for worship at both services that morning.  At 3pm we will have our Sunday School Christmas program.  Following the program, we will have a Potluck Supper in Wesley Hall. Following the supper our Jr. and Sr. High Youth Groups will have games and activities for the kids. So break out your most festive Christmas sweater and join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus!  Sign-up sheets for the potluck will be in Wesley Hall starting Sunday, November 26th.

Giving Thanks for Dry Bottoms a diaper shower for the Contact Center. Yankton Lions Club is partnering with 1st United Methodist Church Sunday School classes for a Diaper Shower for the Contact Center. November 12th to December 10th.  Donations can be dropped off at the Church Lobby 9am to 4pm weekly or on Sunday Morning. There are totes marked for the different classes and The Lions, place your donation in the tote you wish to help. Or you may give donation to any Lions Member. Last year over 2000 diapers were collected for the little people in our community. The goal is to double that number.
