*CHRISTMAS HYMN #238 (UM hymnal) Angels We Have Heard on High

*CALL TO WORSHIP

   On this holiest of mornings,

We come, joining the shepherds who are stunned by workers.

After that most silent of nights,

We come, our hopes and dreams.

On this morning of carols and celebration,

We come, our glad songs joining with the choirs of angels over us.

*OPENING PRAYER

*CHRISTMAS HYMN #224 (UM hymnal) Good Christian Friends, Rejoice

*CHRISTMAS LITANY “All That Is Due God’s Name”

L:  Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, the honor due God’s name—

P:  The honor of a scandalous love, a love that kept Joseph by Mary’s side

when she became great with child!

L:  Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, the majesty due God’s name—

P:  The majesty of a lowly manger, a manger that cradled a tiny savior when

no room was found in the inn!

L:  Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, the power due God’s name—

P:  The power of a simple shepherd, a shepherd who first beheld the One

whose name was announced by a heavenly choir!

L:  Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, the beauty due God’s name—

P:  The beauty of two ordinary parents, the parents who watched the magi

kneel and pondered these things in their wondering hearts!

ALL:  Honor! Majesty! Power! Beauty! Ascribe to the Lord, O families

of nations, the glory due God’s Name!

Junior High and Senior High Update

Starting in January our middle and high school students will be part of the test group on our new Sunday School, Nursery and Youth check in system.  The Education committee and Safe Sanctuary committee have purchased a new check-in/check-out system that we will be using as part of our growing commitment to the overall safety here in the church. This software will also serve as a more effective way to track attendance, allow parents to receive texts when their child has checked in and out as well as send out communication for events and or emergencies.  The Middle and High School students will have badges here at the church that they will scan when they come to group and scan again when they leave. When we implement this with the Sunday School program the parents of those children will have to go and check their children in and out.  Please sign up at https://www.kidcheck.com/signup/     Please have this done before we meet again in January so we can get the name badges made and it will save you from having to come inside and sign up at that time.

Winter Connection January 27-28 in Brookings.  Please talk to your child about attending this great event.  We will leave the church on Friday, Jan 27th at 5 pm and will return on Sat around 5:30 pm.  The cost of this event is $40 but because we received a generous donation and feel like this is an event everyone should attend, there will be no cost to the students.   Please print out the registration form and return it by January 8th.   http://dakyouth.com/clientimages/38811/wc%20youth%20registration%20form%202017.pdf

Community-wide outreach concert.  Our team is helping put on a community-wide outreach event at the YHS auditorium on Wednesday night January 11th.   I will need some more adult volunteers to be at the event that night to help hand out items and chaperone since we will have a good size group from our church going.

"New Year, New You" featuring Bobby "Bugattii" Jones

Bobby Jones is a young man who grew up in Yankton and was a tremendous football player but his football dreams were cut short by alcohol addiction.  During his time in recovery, he came to have a relationship with Christ and found his purpose in writing music and sharing his story with youth.   He has been a part of the Reach Program in Minnesota speaking to at-risk youth, has spoken and performed at numerous schools and churches in South Dakota and Minnesota and has also done work with Lifelight out of Sioux Falls.

We have worked with Yankton Middle School and Yankton High School to have Bobby speak to the students during the day on the 11th and thanks to a generous donor have secured the auditorium that night for him to share his music and to get deeper with the students about his faith.

Bobby has true passion for youth and a heart for fulfilling The Great Commission.   If you have students and adults that enjoy artist like Lecrae and Tadashi they will love Bobby's music!  I hope you will be willing and able to share this with your students and encourage them to bring friends along with them to this event.

I must add this event is for all ages, not just youth.

2017 High School Mission Trip to Mission, TX

June 24 to July 2, 2017               Serving those in the heart of southern Texas

Join Youth from all over the Dakotas United Methodist Conference as we travel to the southern tip of Texas to serve our brothers and sisters in need in the “Colonial” — a small strip of land just north of the USA — Mexican border.  We will depart on Saturday, June 24, and return on Sunday, July 2.  We will spend Saturday night on the road on the way to Mission, TX.  We will work Monday through Thursday at a variety of sites, mostly doing light construction work.  During this time we will stay in dorms and cabins at a local camp that is a beautiful and well-equipped facility.  Each of our work days will begin with breakfast in camp followed by working in teams at various sites.  While at the work site, we will have a sack lunch and noon devotional time.  Each evening we will return to camp for clean-up, dinner, worship, and some free time.  We will travel to San Antonio on Thursday evening and spend Friday there at the Six Flags Amusement Park.  We will travel a few hours Friday night and then most of Saturday to get to Topeka, Kansas.  There we will have our closing worship and return home on Sunday.

Registration will be opening soon!

Cost of the Trip $ 750

Deposit $150 due at registration

February 1st - First Payment - $300

May 15th - Final Payment - $300

Mission Trip-- On January 8th at 4 pm we will be having a meeting for the parents of students who would like to go on the Mission Trip to Texas this summer.   This trip is open for students that are currently in 8th-12th grade.  We will discuss the trip cost as well as upcoming fundraisers that will help defray some of the costs.
