Here we wait for the birth of the one who will teach us how to love and serve.

It is a joy to enter the house of the Lord! Come and praise God!

*HYMN OF PRAISE #196 (UM hymnal) “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

A Time of Prayer

PRAYER RESPONSE #171 (UM hymnal)

“There’s Something About That Name”

A Time of Proclamation

From the darkness, God called forth light and saw that the light was good.

The world needs an eternal light that no one can extinguish.

That light is Christ; may we receive him now.

The darkness of sin, the obscurity of ignorance and the horror of crime

and terrorism sometimes seem to overtake the light.

We must educate so we can teach others. Our knowledge and faith work together

to guide us to the saving truth. That truth offers a peace that surpasses understanding.

Holy Spirit, help us to practice what we teach so that our lights will keep

burning in this dark world. Then we can educate, encourage and draw others

to the light of life. Amen

- United Methodist Student Day Offering One of six churchwide Special Sundays of The United Methodist Church, United Methodist Student Day provides scholarships for qualified United Methodist applicants. When you give generously on United Methodist Student Day, you support qualified students as they prepare for a life that unites faith with knowledge.  The Dakotas Conference distributed $86,000 in scholarship funds to seminary students this past year.

- Angel Tree the Missions Committee Tree of Life Christmas tree is in Wesley Hall. We invite you to take an angel or 2, and buy a gift for that child, wrap it, place the angel tag on it, and return it to the church. If you’re not the shopping type, a check will do and somebody else will shop for you. Make a child’s life a little bit brighter on Christmas morning.

- Giving Tuesday is rapidly approaching (Nov. 29th). This is an opportunity to help others that are in desperate need of food and other essentials during this holiday season. In the past, the money that we, as a church, have donated was pooled and sent to the Board of Global Ministries. They matched the amount that we sent. In this way we were able to make a significant impact on the needs of the people of Rosebud. If you would like to participate in this important event, it is important to have any donation to the church by Sunday the 27th of November. We will make certain that any donation will be sent to the Board in a timely manner.

- Coffee Fellowship People are needed to sign up to serve the coffee fellowship for both Nov. and Dec.  It takes at least 2 people to do this and 3 would be even better.

- KYNT Radio Broadcast Sponsors needed the signup folder is located on the table in the Church Lounge. Signup sheets for 2017 dates are in the folder now. The cost to sponsor a Sunday broadcast is $45.00.

- United Methodist Women the First United Methodist Women group will, on December 5, 2016, enjoy their traditional celebration of the birth of Christ after holding a brief business meeting and concluding projects for 2016.  New officers will be elected and yearbooks for 2017 will be distributed.  Devotions will be shared by Mary Johnson and food, fun and frivolity will be shared by all.  Our numbers are growing; we invite you to join us.

- BUY A BOOK - GIVE A BOOK to a child in Haiti!

Title: "Even A Little Raindrop", author - Bruce Blumer

This is a story that was told by Bruce's father, which he passed to his children, and now his grandchildren. It's an inspiring story. Books are available in Wesley Hall, or from Gena Brandt

for a gift of $10 to LaGanove Alive. The books will be delivered to the Haitian children, by a mission team from our church, heading to Haiti the end of January, 2017.

- Vespers The Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery and the Mount Marty College Music Department will present their annual Vespers performance entitled “Angelorum Canticum”, Songs of Angels, on Saturday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 4 at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The free performances are in the beautiful Bishop Marty Chapel on the Mount Marty College campus. Tickets to Vespers are free, but space is limited to 475 people per performance with a limit of six tickets per person.  Tickets will be available starting at Noon (12:00 p.m.) on Monday, November 7 on a first come first served basis at two locations; the Sacred Heart Monastery Gift Shop or the Mount Marty College Pages Bookstore. For more information on the event contact Wyatt Yager at

- Advent Retreat What do we call the baby whose coming we celebrate this season?   Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Prince of Peace, as we hear in Handel’s Messiah?   At the Advent Morning of Reflection, “His Name Shall Be . . .” we will walk with the Old Testament prophets, with

Mary and Joseph, as they wondered what “his name shall be. . .” The morning of reflection will be

held at the Benedictine Peace Center, Sacred Heart Monastery, Yankton on December 3, 9:30 a.m.

to noon, with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The retreat includes presentations by S. Mary Jo

Polak OSB, quiet time for reflection and table sharing.  Suggested donation is $15.  Register by

calling 605-668-6292 or e-mail For more information, go to

- Sunday School Christmas Program The annual Sunday school Christmas program will be held on Sunday December 11th at 6:30pm. The students have begun practicing their songs and parts and are very excited to share with everyone about the birth of baby Jesus.

- Calendars Available 2017 calendars, compliments of Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home, are now available. You can pick them up from the table at the top of the stairs or outside the Church Office.

- Animals Needed The Live Nativity production crew is looking for animals: a donkey, sheep, and a small cow to use for the Live Nativity on Saturday, December 17th. If you have any of these or know of someone who has them, please contact the church office with contact information.

- Advent Study Ebenezer Scrooge is a man in dire need of a second chance. Is redemption possible for such a greedy, dark and sad character? The Redemption of Scrooge, from Matt Rawle’s The Pop in Culture Series, shows us how the teachings of Jesus can be found in Dickens’ Christmas classic. From the ghosts of Christmas past, to the Life of the present, and the resurrection of Christmas future, this Advent study will “bless us every one” and reinvigorate our spiritual journeys as we look at this familiar story through the lens of faith.

- Bake Sale  We are having a bake sale on Sunday December 11th between church services for Megan and Susie McCorkell to raise money to go to Haiti at the end of January.

Megan and I are going on this mission trip because we feel God calling us to go help the community and give to others our love and passion for Christ.  We know we take things for granted and would like to see how the people of Haiti live and interact with one another.  This area has a high poverty level.  We both have never done anything like this and really just want to give back to the Lord.  We want to impact anyone we can and just show the people love.

We are so grateful for our loving church family!!!  If you are not able to bake anything and would just like to donate we would appreciate any help.

Again we are excited to go with this group to serve and experience this life style that is so different from our culture here in South Dakota.  God’s calling is strong and we don’t want to say “maybe next time.”

Thank you for your love and support!

God Bless you all,

Susie and Megan McCorkell

- Thank You!! A huge thanks to Laurie Baily, Kami Cornemann, Marsha Johnson, Sophie McKee & friend, Julie Moderegger and Jill Wilson for helping the Worship Committee decorate the sanctuary and the rest of the church for Advent.
