*CALL TO WORSHIP

Throughout the ages, disciples have said, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

Lord, give us the freedom to follow you in the ways of love.

We come from busy homes, filled with little time to consider Christ in our lives.

Lord, give us the strength to follow you in ways of peace.

In times of struggle, we look to God for help.

Lord, give us the opportunity to follow you in the ways of kindness.

Today, we celebrate the Holy Spirit, who shows us the joy of following God.

Lord, give us the patience to follow you in the ways of faith. Amen.

*OPENING PRAYER

*HYMN OF PRAISE #77 (UM hymnal) “How Great Thou Art”

*LITANY “We Would Follow You, Lord, But First”

O People, walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of self-control –

We would follow you, Lord, but first: These people who offend us, shall

we not bid fire to rain down from heaven upon them?

Walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of gentleness –

We would follow you, Lord, but first: This blind man who begs us,

shall we not command him to be silent?

Walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of faithfulness –

We would follow you Lord, but first: This hungry crowd that hounds us, shall we not send them home?

Walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of goodness –

We would follow you, Lord but first: These disciples who are with us, shall we not have more power than they?

Walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of patience –

We would follow you, Lord but first: These children who approach us, shall we not chase them away?

Walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of peace –

We would follow you, Lord but first: These foes who confront us, shall we not

draw our swords?

Walk in my spirit, and bear the fruit of love –

We would follow you, Lord, but first: This lowly woman who pleads for her daughter, shall we not rebuke her?

O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to bear with you? If you will not follow and serve, send the woman to me!

- Ushers Needed One of the important ministries here at First UMC is the one performed by our ushers. The Worship Committee is recruiting people to help fill in some of the open spots on our usher schedule and to develop a list of substitutes to fill in when out permanent ushers are unavailable. Many of our current ushers have served faithfully for a number of years. With summer approaching and the service times changing for the summer we are in need of people to help out by filling in some of the open slots. This summer would be a great time for anyone thinking about stepping up and helping with this ministry to check it out. and see if this is a way you would be able Please prayerfully consider whether this would be a way for you to fulfill your membership covenant to “faithfully participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness”.  Please contact Craig Sherman, Worship Chair if you wish to help out with this ministry.  Email: cs2254@yahoo.com or 665-7182.
