RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP (Please leave complete address)

The Spirit of God is upon us.

We are called to be God’s people.

The Spirit of God is upon us.

We are called to be the body of Christ.

Come let us worship God, who binds us together in love and service.

*OPENING PRAYER

*HYMN OF PRAISE #57 (UM hymnal) O For a Thousand Tongue to Sing

God our Creator, we feel, as a group and individually, we’re part of You

and Your work in this world.

Each of us here sees Your presence in the relationships we share with

You and one another.

Help us to be sharers of Your love and life with our friends we see each day.

Help us to give of our own love, which we can know and feel in

relationship to You, to all who are within our community.

Give us strength to show caring, feeling, anger, and sorrow to people we care

for and can find rest in.

Give us understanding to discern the real needs of Your people.

Give us courage to reach out and show our concern for You by giving of our

own lives.

Show us all the friendship that it takes in order to grow with the variety

of people we are gathered with and to learn to love them as brothers

and sisters.

Give us the love of You and of life itself so that we can gather together, one

with another, and accept each other for the real person he or she is.

Help us to see the importance of all Your creation as it presents itself to

us, in things both great and small.

Make us aware of the people in our community so that we can know them as

unique and real, responding and caring friends.

Give us ears to hear and eyes to see the love in our lives, that we may

rejoice in sharing and song.

Help us to live for all people, as we try to live and love with and for You.

Give us an opportunity to share with each other our own faith. Show us

meaning in our experiences so that we can be guided in our ministry.

We thank You, God, for Your presence in our lives and pray that You will bless

this service with Your grace and love that we, as individuals, may share

friendship and relationship with You and all people.

God, we pray for an enriched awareness of Your work in us and are

thankful. As we leave this fellowship, we will better understand the

meanings of Your love which we’ve seen expressed and will know that

we have help in You whenever it is needed.

All: Thank you, our God, for each and everyone of us here, for all of our

own unique relationships we have with You and each other; for it is

through Your relationships with us that we are able to depend on and love others.

 In Christ’s Name. Amen.

- Prayer Chain the United Methodist Women sponsor a telephone prayer chain for those in need of special prayers.  If you prefer, you can be included in this wonderful ministry by simply reading your email!  Please email the church office and let them know that you would like to be included.  If you have a prayer request, simply call or email the church office with your request.  It will be included in both the telephone and email prayer chains.  When you receive an email from with "prayer request" in the subject line, we would ask that you spend a moment in silent prayer for that person or family.  Please consider being a part of this simple yet powerful service.

- You’re Invited Lance & Kristi Palecek would like to invite you to celebrate with Alexander Palecek as he receives his Eagle Scout ranking with Boy Scouts of America at 2pm on Sunday, January 24th, in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church. There will be a reception in Wesley Hall following the ceremony. Thank you to our church family for supporting Alex through scouts and with his Eagle Scout retaining wall project at the church.  We are truly blessed to have you in our lives.

- Prison Ministry Team 2016 will be an exciting year for our prison ministry.  We will be participating in 5 different worship services at the federal prison camp here in Yankton.  The dates of the services are as followed January 24th, March 20th, July 24th, October 30th and December 18th.  Anyone wishing to be a part of this valuable ministry is encouraged to join us.  We need people to greet, read scripture, share joys and concerns, preach but the most important job is to attend and share a time of worship and community with the campers.  A simple background form and willingness to serve is all that’s required. We are asking for those that served in 2015 to help with this service since your background checks have already been completed.

- Church Council Meeting The next meeting of the Church Council will be on Tuesday, January 26th at 6:30pm.  Just to remind you: we only meet quarterly, so it is important to attend the meetings.

On our worst day, God doesn't walk away from us. And His love for us is not determined by our performance. No matter how many times we mess up, God loves (and never leaves) broken people.   We will also start this same study on Wednesday's from 6:30pm to 7:30pm staring on February 17th (in the Upper Room).  Please join us for either time!  We would love to have you as we study God's great word.

Current Message Series: Going Places

For the next 5 weeks we are going places! We are going to Vegas to talk about temptation and going fishing to talk about sharing the gospel. We are also going into darkness to talk about the unknown and into the woods to talk about coming home. Finally, we are going to the desert to talk about being alone. If you think about it, we are all going places. All of us are going someplace when we die, but all of us are also going places while we are alive. Have you ever been tempted? Have you ever been too scared to share the gospel or too fearful to take a step of faith? Have you strayed from God and had a hard time finding your way back home? Have you ever felt alone? Most of us have all been to these places in our lives and many times we don't know what to do or how to please God when we find ourselves without answers.

Current Message Series: Witness

In the first week of Witness we look into the story of David and Goliath. David stood up to his giant Goliath — and won! Sometimes we will face “giants,” but God will give us the courage to defeat them and overcome. Week two dives into the story of Abigail. She confronts King David and stands up for her husband because of what she believes is right. God will give us the strength to stand 0075p for what is right. The third week focuses on the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They don’t bow down and worship the king when everyone else did. Because of that, they get thrown into the fiery furnace. But God keeps them safe. God will give us the courage to stand up for our faith even when it seems like we are the only ones. In the fourth week we look at the story of Moses. God calls Moses to do something that he doesn’t want to do because he feels insecure. But God uses Moses to perform miracles. God will give us the courage to do great things even when we doubt ourselves. The fifth and final week of Witness is the story of Jesus. Jesus sacrificed Himself and died on the cross for the good of the world that He loved so much. God will give us the courage to give up things we love for things we love even more.
