- Join the United Methodist Women on their Annual Field Trip and Retreat as they journey to the Abbott House in Mitchell SD on June 8, 2015! This all-girl facility focuses on abused and neglected girls from the ages of 7 to 23. A presentation at a recent meeting by the Development Director inspired the group’s desire to see the good work being done.  We will take the church van and as many cars as needed, leaving the church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and returning about 4:00 p.m.  There is no cost; however, we will have reservations at a local restaurant for lunch, which will be at your own expense.  You NEED NOT be a member of UMW; just call Joan at 260-9564 by May 29 and a place will be reserved for YOU!

- History from 1874 An account of the dedication of the church, found in the book, Circuit Riders of the Middle Border follows: “The dedication day finally came the latter part of January, 1874. Bishop Thomas Bowman returned for the event. The Honorable Bartlett Tripp, who later became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Dakotas credited with the following account of the dedicatory exercises. “We all went down to see the church dedicated. I don’t suppose we lugged very big pocketbooks, for we didn’t have them in those days. We entered the church and Bishop Bowman was to preach the sermon. We were attracted by his name. He called for the financial report and found that the house he was to dedicate was between two and three thousand dollars in debt. “Usher”, he says, “lock the doors and let no man go from this room until the debt is lifted.” He then preached one of the best sermons on giving I ever heard. General Beadle sat beside me and says, “You give fifty dollars and I will give fifty more.” Before I had a chance to reply he says “Fifty dollars!” and I had to say it too!” An adequate amount was subscribed to cover the indebtedness. Later that same year, 1874, the trustees of the Methodist Church contracted with Sharp and Beck, Carpenters and Builders, to build Church seats @ 60cents per square foot, for a total of $208.80 – and 214.02 with interest.
