*CALL TO WORSHIP

Let all who believe in the risen and ascended Christ give praise!

It is the Good News, witness of our salvation: Christ lives!

In Christ God defeated death and the grave, once and for all.

In our risen Lord we are called to be the Church, witness to the ages.

And this same Christ who ascended will, in God’s holy time, return.

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

- Pentecost is the birthday of the Christian Church! It was on Pentecost that the Holy Spirit empowered Jesus' disciples to proclaim the Gospel. Tongues of fire descended onto their heads in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on human flesh, thereby enabling God's work in the world. In honor of the fire of the Holy Spirit, the Worship Committee invites you to wear red when you come to worship with us on Pentecost Sunday, May 24th.

- Join the United Methodist Women on their Annual Field Trip and Retreat as they journey to the Abbott House in Mitchell SD on June 8, 2015! This all-girl facility focuses on abused and neglected girls from the ages of 7 to 23.   A presentation at a recent meeting by the Development Director inspired the group’s desire to see the good work being done.  We will take the church van and as many cars as needed, leaving the church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and returning about 4:00 p.m.  There is no cost; however, we will have reservations at a local restaurant for lunch, which will be at your own expense.  You NEED NOT be a member of UMW; just call Joan at 260-9564 by May 29 and a place will be reserved for YOU!

- Summer Worship Times a Contemporary Worship service will be held at 7:00pm on each Wednesday evening beginning May 27th.   A traditional service will be held each Sunday morning at 10:00am beginning May 31st.  Coffee fellowship on Sunday morning will begin at 9:30am and nursery service will be available from 10:00 – 11:00 am.

- On behalf of the Finance Committee, thank you to everyone who purchases Hy-Vee cash cards through First United Methodist Church. The Committee recently approved a request to remodel the Jr. High Youth Room at an estimated cost of $5,538 using some of the proceeds from past Hy-Vee card sales. Last year alone, FUMC raised $6,206 through this very simple and valuable ministry that everyone can participate in. Hy-Vee cards are available for sale each Sunday before and between worship services. A special thanks to all past and present church members and office staff involved in this ministry.

- Chancel Choir Rehearsal May 24th at 10am Sunday morning in rehearsal room. May 31st rehearsal at 9am Sunday morning in the rehearsal room.

- Heritage Sunday will be celebrated at the 10am service on May 31st. 50 year or more Methodist will be honored. There will be a skit taken from a report by Gen. WHH Beadle, of plans to purchase the land for the Methodist Church in Yankton.

- Church Office Calendar just a reminder that if you want information on the church office calendar leave a note for Lisa to add it. This includes any changes that need to be made. Please do NOT add or change anything on the calendar as it may not be changed on other calendars or the bulletin announcements.
